Walter Jones, Esq.

Mr. Walter Jones has served as the Director of Community Economic Development Programs at Greeley-based Hensel Phelps Construction since 1992.  In that position he has developed a number of innovative programs to meet tight programs and budgets, while incorporating significant small business utilization, bringing him over $2 billion in project work experience.

In addition to his corporate legal and project activities at Hensel Phelps, Mr. Jones spearheaded a number of community-based initiatives including serving as chair of the Governor’s Advisory Committee that entirely revamped the building construction process for the State of Colorado.  He currently co-chairs the Mayor’s Committee to revise the City of Denver’s small and disadvantaged business programs, including the promotion of local community economic development activities.

Mr. Jones also helped to create and co-chaired the launch of the Colorado Building Industry Council (CBIC), a unique partnership between the Association of General Contractors/Colorado Building Chapter and the principal minority and women’s trade associations in the area.  This unique collaboration has generated community-wide support for numerous major local economic development projects. Prior to joining Hensel Phelps, Mr. Jones maintained a private law practice as well as worked as an Associate at the prestigious Holland & Hart law firm.

Raised in one of the country’s first public housing projects in New York City, Mr. Jones attended the City College of New York and went on to receive his Jurist Doctorate from the Harvard Law School, where he served as president of the Student-Faculty Council and International Law Society.
