Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program
Lottery Questions and Answers

1)  How does a person apply for the Section 8 HCVP?
DHA utilizes a lottery.  The lottery is opened annually for two days per calendar year and the next lottery will be held September 19-20, 2019.  Interested individuals may submit a lottery entry via the internet at DHA’s website: www.denverhousing.org.

2) Who can participate in the Section 8 HCVP Lottery?
You must be 18 years of age or older, and a U.S. citizen or eligible immigrant, and have legal capacity to enter into a lease under state and local law.  You do not have to live in the City and County of Denver to participate in the lottery; however, if you are a non-resident, you will be required to lease a unit in Denver for the first 12 months after receiving your voucher.

3)   Can I submit more than one lottery entry?
No, if you submit more than one lottery entry, you may be disqualified.  Multiple entries will be voided.

4)   If I participate in the lottery, will this guarantee me a Section 8 HCVP voucher?
No, DHA will hold a computer generated random drawing when vouchers are available throughout the year.  Notice of the drawings will be published on DHA’s website.  If your lottery number is selected, DHA will notify you by mail with instructions to start the application process.  Numbers drawn will be posted at DHA sites (the sites will be posted at the time of the drawing notice) and on DHA’s website.  Numbers not drawn by the end of the year will be discarded.

 5)   If I have a change of address, do I need to notify DHA?
