Celebrating Strength and Community at Friends of DHA’s Wall of Fame Event

Last week, Friends of DHA hosted its inspiring annual Wall of Fame fundraiser—a special evening dedicated to honoring the strength, resilience, and achievements of our Denver Housing Authority community.

The event brought together residents, partners, supporters, and friends to celebrate stories that remind us all why our work matters. This year’s Wall of Fame honorees represent the heart of our community—individuals whose courage and determination have made a lasting impact.

Feven Desta
Outstanding ESS Achievement

Feven Desta, this year’s Outstanding ESS Achievement honoree, exemplifies determination and success. Joining the FSS Program unemployed and facing language barriers as a non-English speaker, Feven completed her GED, secured a full-time job with a significant income increase, and built strong financial savings. Most importantly, she attained homeownership — an amazing goal for FSS Program participants. Her financial literacy improved greatly, and she consistently maintained an emergency savings account. Feven’s journey from unemployment to financial stability, all while overcoming challenges as an immigrant and single mother, inspires others striving for a better life for their families.

Toyz in Da Hood
Outstanding Partner Contributions

Our final award is for outstanding partner contributions to the agency. This year we would like to recognize Toyz in Da Hood. For the past 25 years, Rose and her family have organized the Toyz in da Hood event, working tirelessly to ensure every child in the neighborhood receives a gift during the holiday season. Their commitment goes far beyond just distributing presents—they dedicate countless hours fundraising, shopping, coordinating logistics, and wrapping gifts, all to spread joy and hope to the families in our community. What makes this effort even more remarkable is the spirit with which it is done. Rose and her team never seek recognition, never complain, and are consistently a joy to collaborate with. Their kindness, generosity, and passion have left an incredible mark on our department and the hearts of those they serve. Their 25-year legacy of compassion and community care deserves our deepest gratitude and recognition. It’s people like Rose who make our community shine, and we are incredibly fortunate to have her as a partner. Thank you to Rose and the entire team- Marcos, Eli, Placida, Eddie, and Bob.

Each awardee’s story is a powerful reminder of the possibilities when community, support, and opportunity come together.
