The affordable housing lottery opens for online applications on September 21 and 22, 2023

DENVER – Monday, September 11, 2023 – Denver Housing Authority (DHA) is opening its 2024 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Lottery, for 48 hours on September 21 and September 22, 2023.

“This once-per-year lottery begins the application process for people who are interested in and eligible for affordable housing in Denver,” Loretta Owens, Director of HCV for DHA said. “We expect to receive thousands of applications this year with the continued need for safe, decent, affordable housing options.”

The Housing Choice Voucher, formerly known as Section 8, is a housing subsidy program that is funded by the federal government to assist very low to low-income families with affordable housing. Online entries only will be accepted on Thursday, September 21, 2023 (beginning at 12:01 a.m.) through Friday, September 22, 2023 (ending at 11:59 p.m.).

The Housing Choice Voucher Lottery is open to those 18 years and older, U.S. citizens and eligible immigrants, and those who have the legal capacity to enter into a lease under state and local law. More eligibility information may be found at www.denverhousing.org.

Lottery entries must be submitted online using a computer, tablet, or smartphone with Internet access by visiting www.denverhousing.org. For those who need access to a computer, DHA offers two Opportunity Centers, open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. located at Westwood Homes at 855 South Irving Street and North Lincoln Homes at 1401 Mariposa Street. DHA’s Osage Street office will not be open for lottery entries. Denver Public Library (DPL) offers access to computers.
