Denver Housing Authority is leasing 655 Broadway

DENVER – Wednesday, December 6, 2023 – The Denver Housing Authority (DHA) announced today a former medical office building located at 655 Broadway has been converted into income based affordable housing. Rents range from Range $650-$1,700, subject to specific income eligibility requirements. with the first residents moving in Friday, December 8, 2023.  

The newly renovated building houses 110 units. Denver Health joined forces with DHA to house patients after lengthy hospital stays who would otherwise be at risk of homelessness. After acquiring the building, DHA renovated the interior and exterior of the nine-story, 72,000-square foot space. It has been converted into 96 affordable housing apartments for seniors (55+) and disabled (18+) individuals. The second floor of the building has been converted into 14 apartments designated to help Denver Health transition homeless patients out of the hospital.

Joshua Crawley, DHA Interim CEO said, “We are excited to partner with Denver Health on this innovative housing model.  Ensuring patients have stable, affordable housing upon discharge is critical for their continued well-being.  We will also assist these patients in finding long-term affordable housing options.”

According to DHA Property Manager Aurelia Cromer, the first four DHA residents and the first Denver Health transitional residents will move in this week.

“All of the rentals are incomed based and designed for independent living,” Cromer said. “Of the 96 Denver Housing Authority units, 36 are based at 30 percent of a resident’s income and the other units are tax credit affordable housing units that range from $950 or $1050 for a studio apartment based on size, to $1250 for a one bedroom unit. We are excited to begin moving in approximately four news residents each week through the end of the year.”

This modern building includes well-lit, wide hallways making it easily accessible for seniors and disabled individuals. There are also lounge areas and a convenient laundry room for residents on each level, a fitness room with new workout equipment on the main floor and an on-site health and wellness program to promote aging in place and coordinate long-term housing options.
