Housing Navigator

The Denver Housing Authority (DHA) Housing Navigators can assist on a case-by-case basis with the following:

  • Answer questions regarding the different affordable housing programs available through DHA.
  • Explain what information and paperwork is needed to apply and go through the application process.
  • Provide resources for finding landlords that accept Housing Choice Vouchers.
  • Provide resources for obtaining required documents to secure housing (ex: birth certificates, identification, award letters, and application fees and deposit assistance if necessary).
  • Provide resources for other affordable housing options outside of DHA.

Common Questions

For subsidized public housing, applications are only accepted when the public housing waitlist is open (usually in April).

  • Some of DHA’s sites have their own waitlist that is separate from the DHA public housing waitlist. You can view any open waitlists here: https://www.denverhousing.org/dha-availability/
  • There is also some DHA housing called Tax Credit that serve various income levels, including up to 80% Area Median Income households. These can also be accessed through the site-based waitlists mentioned above.
  • The Housing Choice Voucher/Section 8 program is a lottery system that you can apply for once a year only when it is open. You must apply for this program every year if you are not awarded a voucher through the lottery system. The lottery application is usually open in September.
