Free Community Tax Resources

Do you need help filing your taxes in 2023? The IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax preparation and help for people making $57,000 a year or less. If you are feeling overwhelmed and in need of some extra help this year, you can make an appointment to have you taxes prepared with an IRS-certified volunteer. You can also drop off your tax documents and a volunteer can prepare your taxes for you. Please visit www.getaheadcolorado.org/gethelp for more information on dates and times/.

To file your taxes online for free you can use My Free Taxes. This service is provided by United Way and is a great option to file your taxes yourself. There will be a step-by-step guide on the platform to help you and ensure you get all the cash-back tax credits you are eligible for. Learn more at myfreetaxes.com. 

Affordable Connectivity Program

Just a reminder, there is a new federal subsidy program that can help participants pay for internet service. The Affordable Connectivity Program, offered through amny internet service providers, gives households $30/month to cover the cost of internet service and a one-time subsidy of $100 for computer devices for eligible households. As an HCV participant, your household is eligible for this program. Contact your internet provider today to change your internet cost to the ACP free benefit plan. Investing in Yourself in 2023!

It’s a new year and with it comes a new opportunity to take the next step to financial independence. DHA strives to empower individuals and families for a better tomorrow through a variety of programs that can help improve the quality of your life. 

Family Self-Suffiencieny (FSS):

This program helps families work towards economic self-sufficiency goals and homeownership. To begin your path to self-sufficiency, you can attend the FSS Orientation on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of every month from 5:30pm to 7pm.

Elevate U Classes:

The mission of Academies to Work is to provide low to moderate-income individuals in Denver with the training, support, and community resources they need to thrive in demand-driven industries. DHA Website Updates

DHA has been working to make our website more user-friendly and inclusive for everyone. We are happy to announce that we’ve added a new tool to our website. It is the “Accessibility Tool.” It is located in the top left corner of our homepage. This feature allows users to change the text on our website to different languages, increase or decrease font sizes, read text aloud, access the dictionary, and other incredible features. 

Also, look our for our new “HCV Community Resource Book” that will be available on the HCV page and the Document library on our website. This book will have resources available to low-income families in the CIty and County of Denver. It will include childcare, housing, and financial assistance resources.
