DENVER – Tuesday, October 31, 2023 – Denver Housing Authority (DHA) and the Friends of DHA recently hosted a Building ONE Consulting Volunteer Day of Service to help prepare DHA garden plots for winter.

“We are so grateful to our long-time partner Building ONE Consulting and their employees for spending their day helping our residents,” Annie Hancock, DHA director of resident and community connections said. “The Building ONE team normally focuses on identifying ways to make design and construction more efficient, spent a day to help clear out 104 garden plots across 10 DHA public housing properties in preparation for the winter months.”

DHA has 12 community gardens totaling 10,590 square feet, with produce grown by and directly benefiting DHA families. The purpose of the DHA garden program is to promote fresh food access, to support healthy living, and improve mental health. In 2023, the residential gardens produced more than 10,000 pounds of produce for the community.

The program provides opportunities for volunteer involvement across all garden sites. DHA welcomes individuals and groups to help beautify the garden area through weeding and debris clean-up throughout the gardening season.
