Today, Secretary Buttigieg, Senator Bennet, Senator Hickenlooper, Representative Perlmutter, Governor Polis, Mayor Hancock, delegation members, community advocates, residents, David Nisivoccia, CEO of Denver Housing Authority, and other city leaders participated in a conversation with transportation advocates and residents at the Mariposa Housing District owned by Denver Housing Authority. They discussed the importance of equitable access to multimodal transportation opportunities and the importance of investing in clean energy in disadvantaged communities.

Mariposa, the former site of the South Lincoln Homes where 270 Denver residents lived, is now part of a large mixed-use transit-oriented development where 100 seniors live at Tapiz Apartments, and 581 mixed-income families live across 14 acres of inner-city land. In its redeveloped state, the Mariposa community has amenities that are sustainable, socially and economically healthy, and community-centric in food, culture and art. This transit-oriented location opens up access to all of its surrounding neighborhoods, including downtown through the RTD Light Rail, shared bikes, electric vehicle charging stations and more. The neighborhood is a nod to the historic past, embraces the present and is well-situated to look toward the future through sustainable practices such as roof top solar arrays, urban gardens, and electric car stations.
